WEDDING TRENDS REPORT
We’re baaa-ack! It’s the most wonderful time of the year - trend prediction season. And we’re celebrating by deep diving into what we’ve seen at our beautiful weddings this year, and looking ahead to what we think will be popular in the UK and beyond next year. So without further ado, we present our 2024 wedding trend report.
Sartorial: Thoroughly Modern Millie
Every era has it’s turn in bridal fashion, and though we feel like the 90’s inspo is going nowhere right now, we’re starting to see a trend on the 2024 runway shows that tell us the 1920s is having another little moment.
The dropped waist silhouettes, geometric beading, some feathers, a little cape action - all sounding a little bit ‘jazz era’ to us.
Sartorial: Keeping it Separate
The modern bride wants versatility, modernity, and - evidently - to be able to show off a midriff. Bridal separates are getting more popular in 2024, with gorgeous embellished tops, detachable skirts, lacy overlays and matchy-matchy Chanel-inspired tweed set.
Sartorial: Big Floral
It’s not really a wedding trend report if flowers don’t show up in some way in bridal predictions, but this coming year they really are everywhere. And they are big.
Statement, applique 3D florals are back (and front) and all over the runway, adding texture and opulence to gowns and minis.
Even in the fabric pattern itself, we’re seeing the floral motif in a lot of blousy, puffy-sleeved gorgeousness which will make you want to run through a field and look over your shoulder like the cover of a period romance novel.
Sax is Back
We don’t know whether it’s something to do with the jazz era trend, or maybe it never really went away, but gosh darn it if we’re not seeing sax everywhere. Requests to add it on to evening bands but especially solo sax players for cocktail hour or as a surprise collab with the DJ to kick off the evening.
Surprises in general are also still going to be popular with couples in 2024. The desire not to plan a predictable wedding has couples in a chokehold, and so surprise entertainment will see a big surge this year.
Whether it’s singing waiters, fireworks with a twist, professional dancers who flood the floor and get everyone on their feet - it’ll be something and it’ll come out of nowhere in the best way.
Teeny, weeny bouquet-teenies
Tell us you didn’t smile just saying that out loud.
It’s low-fuss, it’s understated. The idea of having something cute to hold but not something to hide behind or let overshadow you.
Notable mention: Speaking of bouquets, we’re also seeing a rise in couples wanting to save money (and the planet) by renting their bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, and there are some services rising up to meet the demand worth checking out.
Content is King: Wedding Social Media Edits
Once the confetti is settled and your in the airport lounge waiting to go on a long-awaited honeymoon, the only thing you’re going to be doing is picking through your guests' photos and your bridesmaid’s selfies from the wedding day. You’ll yearn for the professional quality pics from your photographer and if you’re lucky, you might get a handful of previews within a week. For the rest, you could be waiting months for the edit.
Hence the rise in demand for wedding day content creators. Often an add-on these days from professional photographers and videographers, you can ask the pros to shoot and put together slick social media edits within a couple of days. We predict we’re going to see a heck of a lot more of these services in 2024 and beyond.
Statement Bars that ‘serve’
Not going to lie, for a good chunk of your wedding people are going to be hanging out at the bar - so you might as well make it a good one.
Custom and statement bars will be a big trend in 2024, with couples going for bold colours and patterns, personalised branding and more. Leave the blending to the margaritas you’re serving, let the bar itself stand the hell out.
VHS BTS
Where Super 8 reigned in the early 2010s, VHS has taken up the mantel. The grainy, retro effect adds a layer of nostalgia and romance to wedding videos whether it’s the instagram edit or a little behind the scenes action. Our good friend Holly at Jensen Films shot some gorgeous BTS of one of our summer weddings on VHS and we were bowled over, we’d be surprised if this wasn’t the thing for wedding films for 2024.
French (In) Vogue
You can thank Sofia Richie for many things - a flawless lazy bun, the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic, the ‘quiet luxury’ staple wardrobe - and her 2023 wedding combined all of it, in the best way.
The ‘French Vogue’ wedding will be a hugely popular look in 2024, especially for those who want to follow suit and have a destination wedding, but it’s a trend that can absolutely be achieved at home too.
It’s classic black and white, tonal neutrals, timeless not flashy. A teeny little bouquet but a big, decadent floral arch. It’s minimalist but high quality.
Sealed with a Kitsch
It’s messy, it’s maximalist, it’s a lot - it’s so you. Retro vibes, childhood throwbacks - there’s a lot going on and it’s a lot of fun. More is more when it comes to layered colour palettes and clashing patterns. Nothing is off the table because everything is on the table.
